Common Questions
Do I need to upgrade my panel to install a Level 2 charger?
Not always. It depends on your current panel capacity. We assess this during the estimate visit at no charge. Many homes in Massachusetts have enough capacity for a Level 2 charger without a full panel upgrade.
How long does the installation take?
Most residential Level 2 EV charger installations are completed in 2 to 4 hours. If a panel upgrade or additional circuit work is needed, it may take a full day.
Can I install the charger outdoors?
Yes. We install NEMA-rated outdoor-rated equipment with proper weatherproofing and GFCI protection, compliant with Massachusetts electrical code for exterior installations.
How do I claim the 30% federal tax credit?
You file IRS Form 8911 with your federal tax return. We provide all necessary documentation — permit records and itemized installation receipt — to support your claim. Consult your tax advisor for the specifics of your situation.

GENERATOR
INSTALLATION

New England winters are no joke. A standby generator keeps your home running when the grid goes down — automatically, within seconds. We handle the full electrical connection from the generator to your panel, including transfer switch installation.

  • Automatic transfer switch (ATS) installation — powers on within seconds of outage
  • Whole-home or critical-load circuits only — we design the system for your needs
  • Propane or natural gas connection coordination with your fuel provider
  • Grounding, bonding and safety testing per Massachusetts electrical code
  • Permits pulled — required for any generator hookup in Massachusetts

Common Questions
Do I need a permit to install a generator in Massachusetts?
Yes. Massachusetts requires an electrical permit for any standby generator hookup. We handle the permit process so you don't have to. Unpermitted generator connections are a liability — don't skip this step.
What size generator do I need for my home?
It depends on your home's size and what you want to power. A 14–20kW unit typically covers most homes. We do a load calculation during the estimate to recommend the right size for your situation.
Can you hook up a generator I already purchased?
Absolutely. If you already have a generator, we handle the full electrical connection — transfer switch, panel wiring, grounding, testing and permits.

What's Included
Full panel replacement
Circuit labeling
Main service upgrade
Grounding & bonding
AFCI/GFCI where required
Permit & inspection
Common Questions
How do I know if I need a panel upgrade?
Signs include: breakers tripping frequently, flickering lights, a 100A panel in a larger home, planning to add an EV charger or generator, or a home built before 1980. We assess your panel during a free estimate visit.
Will my power be out all day during the upgrade?
Power is off for 4 to 8 hours on average during a panel replacement. We coordinate with the utility company for the meter pull and work as efficiently as possible to minimize downtime.
Why are all the circuits in your panels labeled so clearly?
Because a panel is only as good as its documentation. We test every circuit and label it clearly — so you always know what controls what. It's a professional standard we hold ourselves to on every job, and one the clients and home inspectors always notice.

Residential Wiring

WIRING &
REWIRING

Massachusetts has a large inventory of pre-1950 homes with outdated knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring. These aren't just code issues — they're real fire hazards. We replace them completely, safely, and with full permits.

  • Full home rewiring for older properties — knob-and-tube and aluminum wiring removal
  • New construction wiring — rough-in, trim-out and final connection
  • Addition and renovation wiring — new circuits for new rooms, kitchens, baths
  • Dedicated circuits for high-draw appliances: dryers, ranges, AC units
  • AFCI breakers where required by current code
Common Questions
Is knob-and-tube wiring dangerous?
It can be. Knob-and-tube is ungrounded and wasn't designed for modern electrical loads. Many insurance companies will not cover homes with active knob-and-tube wiring. If your home was built before the 1950s, a rewiring assessment is worth doing.
Do I need to open up all my walls to rewire?
Not necessarily. Depending on the home's construction, we can often run new wiring through existing paths with minimal wall disturbance. We assess this during the estimate and give you an honest picture of what's involved.

HOME ELECTRICAL
INSPECTIONS

Buying or selling a home? An independent electrical inspection can save you from expensive surprises. We assess the panel, wiring, grounding, outlets and code compliance — and give you a clear written report of what's found.

  • Full panel inspection — breaker condition, labeling, capacity assessment
  • Wiring type identification — knob-and-tube, aluminum, or modern copper
  • GFCI and AFCI protection check in required locations
  • Grounding and bonding verification
  • Clear written report of findings — useful for negotiations or insurance
Common Questions
Is your inspection the same as the home inspector's electrical check?
No. A general home inspector provides a surface-level overview. We are licensed electricians — we go deeper: we open the panel, identify wiring types, test individual circuits and check for code compliance at a technical level. Our report is far more detailed.
Can I use this inspection for my homeowner's insurance?
Many insurance companies request an electrical inspection report for older homes — especially those with knob-and-tube wiring. Our written report can satisfy most insurer requirements. Check with your insurer for their specific documentation needs.
